Selection Committee

Position: Temporary/Short Term
  • Compensation : The Foundation provides a compensation of $1,000 to each member and reimburses expenses related to travel, accommodation, and meals for the one-and-a-half-day selection meeting.
  • Term of the mandate: Open (maximum of 3 years, non-renewable)
  • Start date: For the current selection process (winter – 2026)


Role and Mandate of the Selection Committee 
 


Our Foundation are currently recruiting one new member for the Selection Committee.

The Selection Committee, composed of eight (8) members, is the cornerstone of the Foundation’s regular funding selection process. It holds decision-making authority over the allocation of regular funding and is mandated to establish the criteria for the discretionary funding envelope.

Committee members may also be invited to participate in various workshops, reflection sessions, and other related activities. Participation in these occasional activities remains at the discretion and subject to the availability of committee members.

Mandate of Committee Members

The Committee holds decision-making authority over the allocation of the Foundation’s regular funds and is responsible for establishing and updating the criteria governing discretionary funds. The responsibilities associated with this mandate include:

  • Reviewing and analyzing project proposals submitted by the person responsible for the philanthropic portfolio, using the analysis tools provided.
  • Participating in the selection meeting, lasting one and a half (1.5) days, in order to share analyses, perspectives, and deliberate collectively with other members.
  • Declaring any conflicts of interest, where applicable.
  • Voting to determine which projects will receive financial support.
  • Establishing, on an annual basis, the criteria for the discretionary budget, enabling the leadership and team to ensure funds are deployed efficiently and responsibly.

Adhering to ethical and inclusive principles 

  • Actively participating in meetings and deliberations.
  • Ensuring the confidentiality of all information reviewed and discussed.

Term Length and Renewal 

Appointments are open-ended, with a maximum term of three (3) years. Terms are non-renewable. 

Desired Profile

The composition of the Selection Committee must reflect the Foundation’s values, commitments, and strategic priorities. As such, committee members must collectively embody a diversity of perspectives, knowledge systems, and lived experiences, in alignment with an approach that is grounded in solidarity, anti-oppression, and justice.

The Foundation recognizes the value of lived experience, experiential, community-based, and academic knowledge, and is committed to ensuring that committee members are representative of equity-seeking communities.

Committee members are expected to bring a combination of the following skills, experiences, and sensibilities:

  • Knowledge of anti-oppressive approaches, including principles of intersectional feminism, decolonization, anti-racism, anti-ableism, and other critical analyses of systems of oppression.
  • Strong capacity for critical analysis, ethical deliberation, and collective decision-making, grounded in transparent, fair, and context-aware processes.
  • Understanding of social, environmental, economic, and political dynamics, particularly those affecting historically marginalized communities and movements working toward systemic transformation.
  • Experience in community-based, organizational, or activist contexts aligned with the Foundation’s priorities, including direct knowledge of the lived realities of the groups targeted by the initiatives being supported.
  • Relational, cultural, and communication skills that foster active listening, co-creation, and collaboration within participatory governance spaces that acknowledge and respect diverse power dynamics.
  • Commitment to trust-based philanthropy, including a reflective stance and openness to questioning and transforming traditional selection and evaluation practices.
